Ok so, 2012 is pretty much over. Midnight will bring in a whole new year of hopes, dreams, and of course fashion!! I am certainly excited to bring in a new year and even more excited to see the new styles, trends, and fashions that will dominate 2013. In my last post I touched on my favorite designers of 2012, now let’s take a look back at a few of the best trends of the past year….
BEST….
Menswear. ” Women are the new men”, in more ways than one obviously. One of my favorite trends of the year was menswear, partly because I love mens clothing and another part because… I love mens clothing. But seriously, I love the empowering, masculine edge that women give off when they are wearing the tailored fashion trend. A hint of masculine to compliment your feminine, because let’s face it ladies we all have those days when we just want to be one of the boys.
Prints. I love a good print on any piece of fabric!! This trend was by far my favorite of the year! Who knew houndstooth could spark such a comback? Or abstract shapes that you learned about in art or geometry class would make a blouse look so nice? Decorative fabrics like brocade, jacquard, baroque, and velvet graced not only the fall runway shows but stores and closets everywhere.
Brights. Color color everywhere and so much more was spared this year. Basic blacks and boring browns took a backseat as neon colors invaded stores and bodies everywhere with little to no fading insight. Bright bold colors in everything from handbags to nail polish were so vibrant your closet resembled a box of crayons.
Peplum. An oldie but goodie. Peplum has made a strong comeback between this season and last season, even though it never really went out of style to begin with, this season a lot of women were willing to try the flared, ruffled masterpiece. Sexy, classy, elegant, and chic all wrapped up in one!
Leather and Oxblood. Nothing defined the end of the year quite like leather and the color oxblood. It signified the start of the fall season, appearing countless times on the runways, in magazines, and on your favorite celebs. What I love about this trend is the many different looks it gives off. Leather can be dressed up or down, it is also capable of possesing a tough or girly approach, two things which I feel make up a little of who I am. Oxblood, often called maroon or burgundy, was the color of the season. It’s part of the red family, think of it as a cool cousin you don’t get to see that often, but when you do you always have a great time. The color was everywhere; on leather, pants, blouses, nail polishes, and my new favorite obsession…. lipstick. Oxblood: a warm, rich, slightly darker hue that makes any and all skin tones shimmer.
So there you have it, just a few trends that I was completely in love with this year. I hope to see more of my favs and even better trends in 2013. Feel free to share your thoughts.
Have a safe and fabulous New Year!!
Stylishly Yours,
Miss Monet
