Today marked the launch of a collaboration 5 years in the making. 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target made its way on the racks of the red bulls eyed mega retailer, and judging by the looks of this collection it was well worth the wait. I made an early morning trip to Target, hoping to try on and pick up a few pieces before the crowds of women trickled in.
The floral print shirt dress quickly drew me in, but it wasn’t enough to make me try it on. I loved how it looked in the ad campaigns, but once I felt the material of the garment I was turned off.
The coveted BOOM sweatshirt that will be on the bodies of most women this fall didn’t impress me either. Even though it is a major trend this season, I’m just not that into it. This shirt did not look right or fit me at all. The small was too small, the sleeves would ride up whenever I moved my arms, and the medium still gave the same problem. It’s probably a good thing though; I tend to stay away from trendy pieces like this one because they become easily recognizable. And when a piece of fashion is so trendy that everyone and anyone can recognize it, it loses its appeal.
The top handle crossbody bag, tote, and satchel are part of the accessories family of the collection. I love a great bag so this was exciting to see, they come in 4 different colors, black, purple, taupe, and yellow. The crossbody has a magnetic snap closure, while the satchel has a zipper closure. After a thorough handbag inspection (Yes, I do that to all bags, blame that on the 2 years I spent selling handbags at Saks) I concluded that although cute, they just didn’t wow me, I found myself looking more towards the Merona bags. Clearly, I’m in the minority because all of the 3.1 bags are currently sold out.
I bet you’re wondering “What did you buy, if any thing at all.” Well, after much trying on and inspecting I purchased this floral print blouse (pictured above) and the BOOM printed scarf. You can never have enough scarfs, so that was an easy no brainer purchase. As for the blouse, I debated between small and medium because, just like the sweatshirt, the sleeves were ill fitting. The small won my vote, it looked better on me and the sleeves weren’t nearly as bad.
Overall, this collection offers affordable stylish pieces that can be worn through the fall and spring seasons. Fashionistas looking to save some funds will be flocking to get a piece of high fashion style and it’s easy to see why.
My rating: 7/10
