Kendall Jenner has taken the fashion world by storm! The 5’10, 18-year old beauty already has quite the resume, having appeared on the runways for Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Chanel, making it the second time that she has walked for Karl Lagerfeld . Her first appearance was during his much talked about supermarket show in March and her second appearance just yesterday.
The statuesque baby sister to Kourtney, Kim and Khloe hasn’t stopped at runway, having been featured in countless magazines, from Seventeen to Harper’s Bazaar to Vogue, twice! Miss Vogue featured the pose-conscious model on their cover, while Vogue Paris showcased her, along with four other models, in a high-fashion spread.
Kendall’s rise to the top of the modeling totem pole should be congratulated, however, one can’t help but wonder, is Kendall getting all of these jobs based on her talent or her name? Everyone knows in this fast paced, ever changing industry who you know or who you are will connect you with the right people. It’s no secret that her extra famous, ever fashionable brother-in-law, Kanye West, is very connected to the fashion industry. It’s easy to assume why she has walked for and appeared in Givenchy’s fall ad campaign, because of Kanye’s closeness with Riccardo Tisci, creative director of the famed fashion house.
I’m not downplaying Miss Jenner’s success, just merely questioning how she has achieved, in such a short time, what some models work their entire careers to get. Regardless of her meteoric rise, it’s always exciting to see a new face emerge on the crowded, clone-filled runway. It’s quite impressive that Kendall is now overshadowing her famous older sisters, and for the right reasons. Unlike her famous family, Kendall is photographed for a purpose.
